School Nativity Play by ~polyhymnia:iconpolyhymnia:

Miss Williams! Miss Williams!
You’d really best come quick!
The wise men keep on arguing,
And Joseph’s just been sick!

The star somehow got broken,
We don’t know yet who did it,
Some say that it was Lizzie -
I think it was Ned Pitt.

The girls were playing with Jesus,
And his head somehow came off…
And the boy that sings the solo,
Just got a nasty cough.

The wise men are still bickering,
Over which of them is most wise,
And one really seems to think,
That he’s God in disguise.

The shepherds have just lost their sheep,
And don’t know what to do –
I don’t suppose that you’d know where
To find a random ewe?

Betsy says her tooth’s come out,
And that she wants her mum;
And by now Joseph is looking
Really rather glum…

The audience are coming in,
But we’re really in a state,
Do you think they’ll mind too much
If we’re about an hour late?

The scenery’s fallen down again –
I just thought that you should know,
And, Miss Williams, you’ll never guess…
Miss Williams? Where’d you go?

Having a teacher as a mother, this is the sort of thing that I have to come to terms with every year, when I 'offer' to help. If not exactly true to life, it's very close! Christmas time for teachers is not necessarily peaceful...

The holiday poem School Nativity Play by ~polyhymnia, is a very whimsical gem that - at least for some of us, will bring back some memories of our childhoods! (Suggested by *ThornyEnglishRose and Featured by ^LadyLincoln)

This brought a much needed post-frantic-Christmas-Eve smile to my face. I hope this receives all the praise it so evidently deserves. It really is a great poem. God bless Sunday school teachers and teachers in general, they've got difficult jobs...

Have a very merry Christmas, and congratulations on the Daily Deviation!

In the line "The shepherds have just lost their sheep," I don't think "have" really does anything other than add a syllable to an already long line. Maybe get rid of it?

Anyway, it's a really fun poem and quite an enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing it.

..lol, just noticed "that" two lines below the one I pointed out. I'd skipped over that word when I read it, and the poem flows well without it methinks. Just something for you to reconsider.
